JO ANN PAGE SMITH Obituary
FRISCO, TEXAS - Jo Ann Page Smith, age 90, joyfully walked into heaven on March 1, 2026. Born on October 1, 1935, in Bastrop, Louisiana, Jo Ann lived a beautifully full life marked by curiosity and a deep love for faith, family, and the written word.
She was the daughter of Robert Lee Page and Mary Virginia Deal Page. She grew up in Bastrop, Louisiana. Jo Ann later attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, where she majored in Journalism. Her love of storytelling and language led her to write articles for newspapers throughout the Shreveport- Bossier area. Through her work and community involvement in both Louisiana and Texas, she built many meaningful friendships that she cherished throughout her life.
On November 20, 1955, Jo Ann married fellow dreamer and businessman Oscar Lionel Smith. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Rhonda Smith Guitreau, Robert Keith Smith, and Kathryn Smith Janacek.
Jo Ann and Lionel made their home in Bossier City before later moving to Dallas, Texas, where they enjoyed being close to family and cheering on her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Jo Ann had an adventurous spirit and a lifelong love of travel. Over the years she explored much of the world with family and friends, visiting numerous countries across several continents. Each journey rekindled her inner journalist and gave her stories and experiences to share with those she loved. She often returned home with treasured keepsakes that reflected her curiosity about the world and its people.
An avid reader, Jo Ann maintained a personal library of thousands of books. Her love of reading and learning remained a constant throughout her life and reflected her thoughtful and inquisitive nature.
In her later years, dementia slowly took away her ability to hear and speak, but it never diminished the gentle spirit that defined her. She continued to express herself through clippings from magazines and newspapers and never lost her affection for cats. During these years, she was cared for with extraordinary love and devotion by her daughter, Kathy, in Frisco, Texas, whose selfless dedication and compassion remained constant until Jo Ann's final breath.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Rhonda Smith Guitreau and Kathryn Smith Janacek, as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy and laughter.
Jo Ann was welcomed into heaven by her devoted husband, Lionel, her son Keith, and her parents, all of whom she had greatly missed.
Jo Ann will be remembered for her intellect, her adventurous heart, and the quiet ways she expressed love for those around her. Her memory lives on through her family and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
